Former First Lady Barbara Bush on September 5, reviewing the condition of the hurricane flood evacuees in the Houston Astrodome: "what I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this (chuckle) is working very well for them."

the next "album" that i make is going to be about invisibility.
PART ONE (three invisible girls parts 1-6728) on the beach alone when the sun is setting and everything is orange and you forget your alive and then two women and a small girl appear holding hands with delicate smiles and wavy hair and you can't focus on them and just like that they are gone again. (this is a neverending saga)
PART TWO the sky is glowing dark alone in the park with you i want to be invisible too there was something watching me just listening to me breath the air i looked around but you were gone and so i laid down on the grass and i felt my body sink oh at last! gravity pull on me.

| | sufjan stevens - seven swans | ] | "The United States military published its first public estimate of the number of Iraqi civilians and soldiers killed by Iraqi militants. The estimate appears as a single bar graph on page 23 of a report to Congress and does not provide actual numbers, but by extrapolating from the graph it appears that insurgents are wounding and killing 63 Iraqis a day, and have wounded or killed 25,902 Iraqis since the war began. Some analysts said the numbers seemed low. The number of Iraqi civilians wounded or killed by U.S. forces was not mentioned in the report.[The New York Times] The number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq rose to 2,023. "The best way to honor the sacrifice of our fallen troops," said President George W. Bush, "is to complete the mission."

- most of this stuff is pretty old - last week i found this sort of broken tape recorder (in the middle) for $5 at a thrift store (New Hope) which was closing down. (i heard that the lady who owned it is going to try to now open up a pornagraphy shop!) but this is exciting for me (the tape recorder, not the porn shop) because now i can make tape delay using all three of my broken tape recorders! - i am listening to this album by "alejandra and aeron" which is all really short pieces of music followed by these really beautiful and varied love stories, which are all parts of interviews recorded in berlin. its really good. its called "be mine" - vashti bunyan - lookaftering HOLY SHIT!!!! |

last night was the first rain of the new season. & as halloween approaches, winter begins to fill the sky. there are leaves on the ground, & the air smells smokey, mornings are fresh and cold, & sometimes frosty. the transition between seasons are my favorite times of the year. this specific transition is the best of all four. the warmth of summer and early autumn is still there somewhere inside, it hasnt been fully forgotten yet. & the gloom and solitude that winter eventually brings are too far away to matter yet. right now the only feelings are those of cozy blankets, hot tea, & warm clothes. the days are getting shorter, & the hour right after the sun sets, when there's still a tiny bit of hazy light, & the moon is pale and low, enormous, singing, almost. last night i spent that hour loading things into my car, (a harmonium, a space echo, wires and cables), with a steaming cup of tea, on my way to a warm house and the perfect winter welcoming. |

HERE IS AN OLD LIST:
- swimming in the Klammath river with louie & tyler and crossing it against the current - skipping stones - seeing the big & little dippers, cepheus, lyra, draco, cassiopeia, and the norther cross and shooting stars and satellites - the smell of redwood trees and dew in the morning - the smell of smoke and mist at night - folk mixtapes - "i will die for these animals, i will die for these animals, i will die for these animals." - northern california and all of it's hitchikers, tye dye t-shirts, and smoke shops.
HERE IS A SHORTER NEW LIST:
- deep seas - preparing to play at a concert in a church - "the inexplicable feeling of September" (the album, and the feeling)
THE LYRICS OF AN OLD SONG I WROTE:
if i saw right through your skin, i could watch your heart beating through your heaving naked chest. and if your hands could reach into my body, i could hold my breath until you pulled my insides out. oh but how i kept it all away, hidden beneath my hardened face!! how my insides felt so rotten and impure. but i learned to punch my hands into my body, and i felt around and found that my chest is full of air.
THE RESPONSE I WROTE AS A SONG, RECENTLY:
when i saw right through your skin, i saw the world within. i watched your tides come in. and i watched them roll back again. it's hard to notice when your oceans begin to swell. oh, but i dont know. was that really your heaving chest? your bloody guts and flesh? where did my heart go? or was it just a small part of yours? a tiny little speck.

so far i've only listened to "singers" and palaa aurkinkoon & they're both awesome. on "singers" the quality is all fucked up and it sounds like it was recorded straight on acetate!! and fursaxa is amazing, the kind of music that i want to listen in headphones buried in blankets. or on a trip underwater or in a kelp forest.
